Anna Lumiere is an accomplished Canadian jazz pianist, accordionist, and composer known for her vibrant, genre-blurring approach to contemporary jazz. Originally from Switzerland, she established her musical roots in the Pacific Northwest after studying jazz at Capilano College and the Banff School of Fine Arts. Moving easily between the technical precision of the piano and the soulful, expressive textures of the accordion, Lumiere has developed a distinct artistic voice that gracefully bridges traditional swing, groove, and global acoustic music.
As the founder, leader, and primary composer of the acclaimed Vancouver-based quintet Mimosa, Lumiere has spent over two decades steering a unique sound that blends vocal jazz, Brazilian samba, French chanson, and nostalgic cabaret. Under her direction, the bilingual ensemble has toured extensively across Canada, become a staple at major international gatherings like the Montreal and Vancouver Jazz Festivals, and released four critically acclaimed studio albums. Their landmark anniversary record, Bien ensemble, was released in 2024 under Vancouver’s prominent indie jazz label Cellar Music. Deeply embedded in the West Coast music community, Lumiere maintains a diverse, collaborative schedule across several standout creative projects. She records and performs with vocalist and songwriter Kiki Connelly and the Understory, a spacious R&B and soul-influenced ensemble focused on deep listening and collective harmony, and performs in an intimate jazz duo with her husband, woodwind multi-instrumentalist Graham Ord. Immersed in her surrounding natural landscape, Anna frequently brings live art directly into nature through evocative community forest performances.
